This week marks one year since I started my blog, opened my etsy shop and stepped in to the business of making and selling. In some ways its unbelievable a year has already passed but when I think of all that has happened I am surprised it has happened in only one year! Continue reading “One year”

etsy made in canada 2016

There’s still a small glow around here after the etsy show in London a couple weeks ago. Our spot downtown attracted almost 2,000 people and it was great to meet some amazing makers with equally amazing products. Many thanks to our etsy team leader Jill Bogart for all her work putting the show together. She promoted it online and around the city including a tv feature. Whahoo! summer endings & new beginnings

20160915_043643

June was recovery and follow up from the big pillow order, July blasted past with going and coming to various little holidays with our family, and August seems to have disappeared before my very eyes. Isn’t that how our Canadian summers seem to go? I will drink in the last couple of warm days that September brings. But, oh… I do love fall. It might be my favourite season. Everything for 20 Union Jack pillows – out the door we go!

Hello blogging world, the last several weeks have flown by in a blur! Promoting the pillows through Facebook, email and the previous blog post went unexpectedly well. Most exciting of all was when Annie Sloan shared the link to my blog on her Facebook page along with compliments about the pillows and my little models 😉 Oh my! Continue reading “Unexpected success”

The Trio

It was an exciting morning putting the finishing touches on the Canadian flag pillow. This is the third pillow cover design I have put together using Annie Sloan chalk paint to dye and stamp. So Awesome!  I love how the maple leaf has such strong texture from the stamping. Each pillow will be unique 🙂 Continue reading “The Trio”

It’s been a busy last couple of weeks with selling at the Christmas Extravaganza in St. Thomas and putting together the custom monogram pillow orders. Pickup was today and I was excited to see these handmade things going to their new homes!! Congratulations also to Jenn Allen on winning the draw for a free pillow. She chose one of my favourites, the cream knitted pillow.  (You can see it in the photo above!)  Continue reading “Christmas craft show”

Strawflower Love

flowers1

This was a little project I had in mind for some time. At our local CSA there was a lovely flower patch often frequented by me and my girls. Each week we went home with a collection of flowers to display. This was the first time I had seen a strawflower. It was just like the name, stiff and dry like straw but with striking colours, mostly in oranges, reds and pinks. I loved it! Because it is naturally so dry, it’s perfectly suited for preservation. Pumpkin Flower

It’s Halloween week, the perfect time to carve a pumpkin and not have it rot into a slump by Saturday night. After picking out a huge one at Ferguson’s (thank you daughters Bella and Eva 🙂 ), we sat down to put together our carving plan. This year we tried a new technique I had discovered about a year ago when I had some giant radish from our organic co-op that I had no idea what to do with. Come to find out, vegetable carving is a real thing in Asia and the results are astoundingly beautiful and intricate. Continue reading “Pumpkin Flower”
