It had been sitting on my desk since the One of a Kind show at Christmas and this past week while Paul was away I finally took the opportunity to make my Kiriki horned owl. Of course I was in love with the packaging at first sight and the project inside was just as fun. As Goldilocks would say, “not too big and not too small, this one was just right”. It wasn’t until we were leaving our second stop that I thought, “I’ve got to do a blog post about this!” I had been somewhat aware that the Railway City Arts Crawl was coming up and was mildly interested in seeing it in a “if everything worked out perfectly” sort of way. Then I got an email with someone mentioning it and I saw a couple more signs and I checked out the website and then I really wanted to go. Continue reading “Railway City Arts Crawl” →

Many thanks to all my blog readers for visiting and sharing these posts, I’m excited to say that WordPress has officially made my blog public as a result of recent traffic so it can be found by search engines! Awesome news! The Union Jack post alone had 272 views, an all time high. So exciting. 🙂 This has definitely been a “knee deep and loving it” kind of time for me, living the dream of making my items for small shops. Continue reading “lessons in manufacturing – part 2” →

Well last week took an unexpected turn. With the sharing of my last post on the Union Jack pillow several orders have come in from various Annie Sloan Chalk paint stores from around the world. Wow!! So Suzanne Faris – handmade things will officially be stocked in Green Table Gifts, in Tempe Arizona, The Dandelion in Windsor Ontario, Piper & Ross in Pymble Australia and The Melon Patch in Bath Ontario. I’m over the moon with excitement!! Truly a dream come true. (And Australia? How awesome is that!) Continue reading “lessons in manufacturing” →

Happy New Year! A chance to start fresh and new, who doesn’t need that from time to time? Now that the house is back to normal (mostly) and the hubs is back to work and the kids are back to school my mind has begun to think about next steps. To start off the year I’m excited to be taking an online course from Lisa Congdon this weekend Continue reading “Union Jack” →

As promised a couple weeks ago I have a fun little tutorial here on making hand painted gold pillows! The “merry & bright” pillow was a new design I had added to my craft show in St Thomas this year and was bought by one of my Facebook followers. She had a great idea to add a second pillow with a deer head silhouette so as I was making it I snapped some pics of the process along the way. Continue reading “golden christmas” →
Well where do I start, the One of a Kind show was incredible!! So. Many. Beautiful. Things. I walked around in a daze most of the time because I wasn’t sure where to look first. So many of the vendors were friendly and helpful, here’s a few of my favourites. Continue reading “One of a Kind – Toronto” →

It’s been a busy last couple of weeks with selling at the Christmas Extravaganza in St. Thomas and putting together the custom monogram pillow orders. Pickup was today and I was excited to see these handmade things going to their new homes!! Congratulations also to Jenn Allen on winning the draw for a free pillow. She chose one of my favourites, the cream knitted pillow. (You can see it in the photo above!) Continue reading “Christmas craft show” →
This was a little project I had in mind for some time. At our local CSA there was a lovely flower patch often frequented by me and my girls. Each week we went home with a collection of flowers to display. This was the first time I had seen a strawflower. It was just like the name, stiff and dry like straw but with striking colours, mostly in oranges, reds and pinks. I loved it! Because it is naturally so dry, it’s perfectly suited for preservation.
